Medication Disclaimer

From FERC

FERC does not provide medical advice or recommend any particular drug, herb, or supplement. Resources listed below are for educational purposes only and are intended to provide basic information about medications. However, this is not a complete source for all medications that are available and should not be used as a guide for making medical decisions. If someone close to you is prescribed medication, make sure you support them to:

  • Tell the doctor about all medications and vitamin supplements they are already taking
  • Remind their doctor of any allergies or other past problems with medicines
  • Learn about side effects and report this and lack of response to their doctor
  • Understand how to take the medicine before they start using
  • Recognize that it might take to time to find the right medication and the right dose
  • Be mindful of refill information and develop a plan if medication get lost or runs out
  • Not take medicines prescribed for another person or give their medication to someone else
  • Call their doctor right away if they have problems with the medicine or it is doing more harm than good
  • Report serious side effects to their doctor and the FDA Safety Information & Adverse Event Reporting Program

For some, medication can play a large role in treating and supporting their mental health care. Sometimes treatment might also include therapy in addition to medication. Choosing the right treatment plan should be based on a person’s individual needs, medical situation, and under a mental health professional’s care. Information about medication changes frequently, and some groups like children and adolescents, older adults, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant have special needs to be considered. Check out the FDA website for latest warnings, guidelines, or approved medications and consult a mental health professional.
